The project, which was a tax cadre guesthouse before the renovation, is located in The Grand View Garden Area of Shanghai, surrounded by quaint villages, natural rivers and wild wetlands. There are eight multi-storey buildings of brick and concrete structure built in 1980s with a total construction area of 11,000㎡ on the site. As an educational building, the small partitions of this brick and concrete structure could not meet the use of the training classroom for tax officers, so it was faced with the choice of demolition and reconstruction or reconstruction and restoration of the original structure at that time. In 2015, the government advocated Implementation of City Betterment and Ecological Restoration Programs, and then decided to renovate the internal structure of the original building, update the façade and improve the site environment to meet the functional requirements of tax staff training, accommodation and catering.
